When will my order ship out?

Items ship out within 5-7 days of order placement.

Furniture items are special order and require white-glove delivery service. Delivery times are 6-8 weeks from order placement.

Orders to Canada are shipped UPS Standard and the customer is responsible for all brokerage fees, taxes and duties incurred at customs. Refusal of your package will result in a return shipping fee.

What is your return policy?

All furniture sales are final. Akari and other items may be returned within two weeks of purchase. Please contact us via email for an RMA number and detailed return instructions. All products must be in sellable condition, including all parts and, for Akari Light Sculptures, their black display boxes. A 15% restocking fee will be charged on any damaged returns. We are not responsible for any damage to Akari shades or parts during assembly and installation. For damaged or defected products, please document issues upon arrival and report it to us as soon as possible.

The Akari Light Sculpture that I want is out of stock, what do I do?

Due to the high demand and handmade nature of Akari Light Sculptures, lead times for out of stock models is 3-6 months. We receive small batches of Akari throughout the year and are not able to take orders for items that we do not have in stock. You can use the below signup form to receive a notification when the Akari that you are waiting for becomes available and make your purchase at that time. I live outside of the US and my order is being declined, how do I purchase the items I am looking for?

The Noguchi Museum is the official Akari Light Sculpture distributor for The United States and Canada, we do not ship outside of this area. For Akari distribution elsewhere, please contact Vitra or Sentou.

Can I pick up an Akari order at the museum shop?

The Noguchi Museum shop carries a small selection of the Akari Light Sculpture range on hand. If you are looking to pick up an online order or if you are traveling and would like to plan a purchase of Akari on a certain date, please arrange with us ahead of time.

What kind of bulb should I use for my Akari Light Sculpture?

Any standard incandescent, CFL or LED bulb can be used with your Akari Light Sculpture. Incandescent wattage suggestions are listed on each item page. For CFL or LED usage please check the bulb packaging for equivalence.

Our Akari Light Sculptures are wired for use with standard US outlets. For our ceiling lights we also offer a cord set that can be hard-wired to a junction box.

How do I maintain my Akari and clean the shade?

Akari Light Sculptures should not be placed near any sources of heat or in outdoor conditions. For cleaning and maintenance, it is best to avoid liquid cleaners. We suggest using something like a microfiber cloth or a dry paint brush to keep the dust off. Any dry dusting tool can be used as long as it is not rough/textured. For stain or dirt removal, use a lightly adhesive cleaning tape, white play-doh or other semi-tacky clay, art-gum eraser, or cornstarch for oils.

For minor repairs of the shade we suggest using a translucent, archival tape such as Filmoplast P or Lineco Mending Tissue.

Can I purchase a replacement shade for an Akari that I already own?

Although many of our customers have enjoyed their Akari Light Sculptures for 30+ years, please keep in mind that as with any paper-made object, they will eventually fade and may fall apart. We offer replacement shades for BB1, BB2, BB3, and UF4 models only. Contact us for current availability and pricing.
