Akari 40XP

Designed c. 1968
The Akari 40XP is among the wave of new Akari light sculptures designed by Isamu Noguchi in the 1960s. It features mulberry bark washi paper, and is one of the first Akari to be designed without the use of bamboo ribbing (higo). As it was constructed by Noguchi to pack flat, the folding of the paper creates complex textures on the surface of its cube-like form.
