The Akari UF2-33N pairs one of Isamu Noguchi's final additions to the Akari light sculpture series, the UF ("unit/frame") stand, with a variation on a shade he designed almost two decades prior. It features mulberry bark washi paper and irregular, widely-spaced bamboo ribbing. The shade's undulating form resembles the stacked triangular antiprisms of other Akari shades, but with organically curved lines between vertices. The shade is set on three angled metal legs and secured with black cotton ties.

Akari are made in Gifu, Japan, an area known for its manufacture of paper lanterns called chochin. Akari are fabricated by Ozeki & Co., a family company founded in 1891 that specializes in traditional methods of making chochin lanterns. Ozeki & Co. have been manufacturing Akari since 1951.
