The Akari UF4-L10 pairs one of Isamu Noguchi's final additions to the Akari light sculpture series, the UF ("unit/frame") stand, with a shade designed about a decade and a half earlier. It features mulberry bark washi paper, and is constructed using minimal bamboo ribbing (higo), with a form resembling a column of stacked and rotated rectangular prisms. The lack of ribbing and collapsible construction creates complex textures on the surface of the form, which is set on four angled metal legs and secured with black cotton ties.

Akari are made in Gifu, Japan, an area known for its manufacture of paper lanterns called chochin. Akari are fabricated by Ozeki & Co., a family company founded in 1891 that specializes in traditional methods of making chochin lanterns. Ozeki & Co. have been manufacturing Akari since 1951.
