Akari UF4-L5

The Akari UF4-L5 pairs one of Isamu Noguchi's final additions to the Akari light sculpture series, the UF ("unit/frame") stand, with a shade he designed almost a decade earlier. It features mulberry bark washi paper and is constructed with minimal bamboo ribbing (higo). The model’s unique form resembles a long rectangular prism, split by a pair of stacked and rotated square antiprisms. The lack of ribbing and collapsible construction creates complex textures on the surface of the form, which is set on four angled metal legs and secured with black cotton ties.
