Akari YA2

Designed c. 1977
The YA2 is among the Akari light sculptures that Isamu Noguchi designed over two decades after the origin of the series. For the shade, Noguchi stripped away one of the essential aspects of traditional Japanese lanterns, bamboo ribbing (higo), leaving only mulberry bark washi paper. The lack of ribbing and folded construction creates complex textures on the surface of the form, which resembles a triangular antiprism and is set on four metal legs.
