The Isamu Noguchi Garden Museum Japan Catalogue, Revised Edition

This large format catalogue was produced to commemorate the tenth anniversary of the Isamu Noguchi Garden Museum in Japan, which opened in 1999. It was reprinted in 2016 with some minor revisions, including a newly added list of completed works with photographs.

The Isamu Noguchi Garden Museum Japan is the fulfillment of Noguchi’s wish that his former studio in Mure be an extension of his museum in New York, that it be a place to inspire artists and scholars. The collection on display (including those on loan from The Noguchi Museum, New York) includes 150 sculptures, many of which are still unfinished.

The catalog presents the museum space both past and present, juxtaposing photographs taken during Isamu Noguchi’s lifetime with those taken afterwards, by Kishin Shinoyama. Excerpts from the artist’s writings are dispersed throughout.
