Coinciding with the exhibition Tom Sachs: Tea Ceremony, Tom Sachs and The Noguchi Museum have collaborated on a limited edition of Noguchi’s Akari Light Sculpture model 1N with original artwork by Sachs. The Akari 1N shares much in common structurally with aerospace engineering: a lightweight skin stretched over a resilient, minimal frame. By focusing on the natural synchronicity between handicraft and technology in his own, Noguchi’s, and NASA’s work, Sachs pushes the 1N’s formal resemblance to an Apollo-era lunar lander beyond skin deep.
